Simon pops up at my elbow as I’m feeding Seth.  “Hi, Mommy!  Hi, Seth!”

“Hello, Simon.”

I didn’t say it loudly enough, or look directly at him, so apparently my answer didn’t register.  He tries again.  “HI, MOMMY!  HI, SETH!”

I turn around, and look right into his gorgeous blue eyes.  “Hello, Simon!  How are you doing?”

He shrugs, “Nuffing,” and wanders off.

He always answers the question, “How are you doing?” as though I’d asked, “What are you doing?”  I know it’s just what he does, but his answer still leaves me with the feeling that I need to follow after him, and find out what he’s really been up to.
